Ekchakra Dhaam

Sri Nityananda ki Jai! Ekchakra dhaam ki Jay!

Sri Nityananda was born in Ekchakra. He is Balaram. He took birth as the son of Hadai Pandit and Padmavati mata(Rohini devi). The birthplace is in a remote area, and there is no settlement for miles around. Nitai prabhu has so many wonderful childhood pastimes here. Near the tree where He was born is a large pond. I took some dust from below the tree and put it carefully in my little plastic bag reserved for collecting raj.

It's called ekchakra, because the wheel of a chariot that Krishna picked up to kill Bhishma with, was thrown away by Him instead (as He had vowed to not use any weapons in Kuruksetra), and that wheel fell here. In navadvip. In west bengal. The chariot wheel from Kuruksetra, which is near Delhi. It flew, and fell here.

This is a dhaam. The pandavas stayed here, at Veda Sharma's home, during Agyat vaas (incognito). Bhima killed a demon here that was troubling the villagers for cartloads of bhoga along with one human sacrifice everyday. Arjuna was scared that Bhima was out too long, and tried to help him by releasing the Naga weapon. But the weapon snake had no one to kill when he reached the spot. So the pandavas advised the snake to remain there at that spot and eat away all the sins of people who came there. To date the snake is said to live here, and devour all the sins of passerby s.

At nadi tala, Nitai's umbilical cord is said to be buried. Over it is a bakula tree.

At Vishram tala with His friends Nitai played Laxman in a drama and fell unconscious from the poisonous baan released by Ravana's son. The friends forgot how to get sanjeevani from the nearby makeshift "gandhamadan parvat" and Nitai would simply not get up. Villagers came there and began crying for Nitai, unable to get Him to breathe at all. One villager asked a boy what happened. Upon hearing this he asked the boy to continue the play as Hanuman, and reminded him about getting the sanjeevani for Laxman. The boy ran to the little rock mound, picked it up, got it to Nitai, and gave the grass from it (herbs, if you please) to heal Laxman. Very soon Nitai was on His feet and everyone was happy. This pastime shows how Nitai was completely absorbed in His mood as Laxman. This is Laxman Murchita Lila from Ramayan.

Jahnava devi would hear Nitai's pastimes from villagers here and they would stay up all night discussing these pastimes. One such pastime was the Gajendra Mokshan Lila. Lord Nityanand's friends complied by playing crocodile and elephant respectively. The friend who was Vishnu, was to come save Gajendra. He automatically started floating in the air!!! to his utter bewilderment, on his friend who was the bird Garuda. He then rescued the elephant. This was by Nityanand's will. The Lila brings much joy to the ears when heard from the lotus mouth of a devotee.

Nearby are three temples where Deities that Nityananda worshiped are rotated. They are special deities, as Nityananda disappeared into one of the deities here.

The second time I visited Ekachakra Dhaam I was happy to see Radharani's deity in the temple - she looks so innocent and pretty! Nitai and Nimai were covered in sandalwood as usual. The prasadam was wonderful. It was a great experience.
