Association: the most crucial requirement

http://www.prabhupada-books.de/bhaktisiddhanta/Sri_Guru-Tattva_and_the_Secret_of_Diksa.html

Eka stri sangi krsnaabhakta ara

How and why should asat be given up? By constantly remembering Krsna within the heart, association with asat can be given up.

They are asat because it is the mind and material elements that you are dealing with. The soul is simply suffering in the background. The person talking is simply obeying the mind, which is a material energy, and is drawn to sense objects through the senses. The modes control sense objects, this is how they puppet the senses and the mind of bound souls.

When the bewildered suffering jiva let's go of the proverbial tree instead of screaming "let me go!" while clutching the trunk of the tree, then he realizes that he was holding on to the cause of his misery, and no one was forcing him to clutch onto the tree. The entire time he was thinking, "I am trapped, the tree has captured me, I cannot get away from its grasp." But maya is not actually holding anyone captive. The soul, through misidentification with material mind and senses, is responsible for trapping itself.

In this case, avoiding asat is nothing personal. It is not a grudge or judgemental behavior. It is not a sign of hatred. It is simply this: distinguishing between material and spiritual.

Unable to give up offensive chanting

Due to years of habitual mechanical chanting, I find myself unable to give up offensive chanting.

Instead of being vigilant and watching my mind, I simply chant and continue other nonsense, without realizing that I am offending the most merciful form of the Lord, and this Name is my only hope of being rescued.

I have neglected asking my Lord for service. I am not eager to serve Him at each moment, not even when I am chanting. What kind of chanting is that? I want inner guidance to become free from anxiety, but why should I be given such a benediction if I don't want to serve?
