jolt me out of complacency

Krsna arranged for a soul role-playing as a demon to jolt me out of complacency so that surrender to Him is at the forefront of my consciousness and the rest of my routines and desires and attachments are in the background.

The demons took away the service and facilities of the demigods so that they would have to call out to the Lord in great discomfort, nothing else being in order.

It was not a preaching opportunity. It was not a desire of Krsna to simply bring together two souls for some divine mission or purpose involving love or any such silly thing. It was not simply a test. It was a wake up call and giving me the chance to put surrender first. And it is not over yet.
